Third time's the charm!

My third trip to India in October 2007 was to speak at the International Medical Tourism Forum in Goa. I was fortunate enough to be "found" and befriended by Victor and Maria, who I stayed with in Calangute and Mumbai. The double richness of making new friends and being shown the western points of India I've never seen was unexpected, as the treasures of India usually are.
On the professional side, I met dentists and lawyers and medical travel entrepreneurs, who are working hard to make the path to India and other countries in SE Asia a smooth one for potential patients. I returned to the US exactly 3 years after Howard and I did -- what a difference 3 years makes!

State of the Heart

State of the Heart
Just returned from 3 weeks in India -- sans hospitals! I joined my son, Thane, and Kendall in Mamallapuram, in Tamil Nadu and had a fabulous time. Check out their travel blog for 4 months in India before moving on to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and then China.

State of the Heart is a nonfiction narrative that describes the odyssey Maggi Grace and Howard Staab undertook when Howard's heart valve suddenly malfunctioned and the local hospital in Durham, North Carolina estimated $200,000 to fix it. They faced the entire bill since Howard had chosen not to have health insurance, and instead, flew to India for the surgery.
