State of the Heart is a nonfiction narrative that describes the odyssey Maggi Grace and Howard Staab undertook when Howard's heart valve suddenly malfunctioned and the local hospital in Durham, North Carolina estimated $200,000 to fix it. They faced the entire bill since Howard had chosen not to have health insurance, and instead, flew to India for the surgery.

I heard from a man who said he got my name from the tourist board in India. Sadly, he explained that his mother died during her long wait in Canada for the medical care she needed. He didn't know about the option of going abroad. Well, neither did I until we were forced to find an alternative. I wish I could have helped his mother sooner.

I had no idea so many people watch C-span! But I keep getting thank yous from viewers, saying:

"Caught you on C-Span. Thank you for getting Congressional attention. The medical "economy" is killing our country. Good luck and best wishes to you and Howard."

QUESTION: Why isn't your book out?

Recently got an email that said:

"By the time the publisher is ready to publish your book it will be ancient history. Thomas Friedman’s The World is Flat first published in May 2005 and in April 2006 he already had an updated and revised version in the bookstores….Things are changing so fast, that a publisher taking that long to publish is dealing with history not current affairs."

ANSWER:
Not sure how to answer this, except my book is in the queue. I doubt the healthcare system in the US will be fixed when it comes out. Sorry. Wish I could speed things up.
